Why a hibachi chef is the easiest birthday party you will ever host
A birthday is the one party people host every year, which is exactly why it gets stale. The same restaurant, the same bounce-house vendor, the same tray of catering nobody remembers. A private hibachi chef collapses three vendors into one: dinner, entertainment, and cleanup arrive in the same van. The birthday guest sits at the head of the table, the chef builds the show around them, and the host does not touch a dish.
It scales from an 8-year-old's party with a dozen classmates in the backyard to a 50th at a Siesta Key rental with 35 adults. The menu, the pacing, and the fire show change; the price structure does not.

Birthday formats we cook most
Kids 6–12
12–25 guests, buffet package (chicken, steak, and shrimp). Fire show first, cake after. $30 per child.
Teens / sweet 16
15–30 guests, two proteins. The chef plays to the crowd; the egg-catch becomes the group video.
Quinceañera family dinner
The night-before or day-after dinner for 25–45. Buffet or two-protein, bilingual chef on request.
Milestone adult (30/40/50/60)
15–40 guests at home or a rental. Three-protein with filet and lobster upgrades is the most common pick.
Surprise party
Quiet setup out of sight, cooking starts on the reveal. Works best in a garage or backyard.
Birthday weekend at a rental
Destin, 30A, Orlando villas, the Keys. One dinner night handled so the rest of the trip is free.
A typical birthday evening, minute by minute
- 5:15 pm Chef arrives, unloads one cart, sets the station on the pool deck or driveway. You do nothing.
- 6:00 pm Guests get edamame and gyoza if you added appetizers; the griddle heats; the chef chats with the birthday guest to learn names.
- 6:15 pm Fried rice and vegetables start. Onion volcano, egg toss, sake pour for the adults, water-gun version for kids.
- 6:45 pm Proteins cooked to order per guest — chicken, steak, shrimp, salmon, scallops, tofu — plated hot off the griddle.
- 7:20 pm Everyone is eating together. Cake and candles happen here; the chef hangs back and keeps the griddle warm for seconds.
- 7:45 pm Breakdown. Griddle wiped, trash bagged and taken, surface cleaner than it was at 5. Chef is gone by 8:15.
From birthday hosts
“I was nervous spending $800 on a party. 10 minutes into the fire show, I knew it was the best money I've ever spent. My 8-year-old hasn't stopped talking about it. We already booked next year.”

“30A rental, rainy afternoon — they still crushed it under the patio. Onion volcano had the kids screaming. Worth every dollar for a vacation memory.”

Birthday hibachi pricing by headcount
Every package includes the chef, the portable teppanyaki griddle and propane, every ingredient, hibachi fried rice, salad with ginger dressing, yum yum and teriyaki sauce, plates and utensils, the fire show, and full cleanup. Buffet Style ($35) is chicken, steak, and shrimp served buffet-style with hibachi fried rice and salad. The Two- and Three-Protein tiers add grilled vegetables and let each guest pick their own proteins from chicken, steak, shrimp, salmon, scallops, or tofu, cooked to order. Kids 12 and under are $30 regardless of package.
| Headcount | Buffet $35/pp | Two proteins $50/pp | Three proteins $60/pp |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 guests | $500* | $500 | $600 |
| 15 guests | $525 | $750 | $900 |
| 20 guests | $700 | $1,000 | $1,200 |
| 30 guests | $1,050 | $1,500 | $1,800 |
| 40 guests | $1,400 | $2,000 | $2,400 |
* Meets the $500 event minimum. Kids 12 and under are $30. Filet mignon +$10 and lobster +$15 per person. A travel fee may apply depending on distance from our chef base and is always shown in your quote before you book.
Compare that to a restaurant hibachi table for 15 — $45–$65 per person before drinks, tip, and the 90-minute wait — and the at-home version is usually cheaper and always more fun. Run your exact numbers with the cost calculator.
Birthday party planning checklist
Pick a flat outdoor spot (driveway, pool deck, lanai, garage) and a rain backup under cover. Count kids and adults separately. Decide buffet vs. per-person proteins. Add appetizers if guests arrive before dinner. Tell us about allergies a week out. Have tables and chairs for everyone, drinks and cake handled. We bring the rest. The full hibachi party checklist covers it in detail.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a hibachi birthday party cost in Florida?
A hibachi birthday party costs $35–$60 per person with a $500 event minimum. Kids 12 and under are $30. A party of 15 adults on the two-protein package is $750 all in; a kids party of 12 children plus 6 adults on the buffet package is $570.
How many guests do I need for a hibachi birthday party?
There is no minimum headcount, only a $500 event minimum. Groups of 8–10 adults on the two-protein package meet it naturally; smaller groups simply pay the $500 minimum. One chef serves up to about 40 guests; bigger parties get a second chef.
Is a hibachi party good for a kids birthday?
It is one of the best formats for ages 6–14. The onion volcano, egg tricks, and catching food are the entertainment, the menu is familiar (chicken, shrimp, fried rice), and parents eat the same meal instead of ordering separately. Kids 12 and under are $30 each.
Can you do a surprise birthday party?
Yes. We coordinate arrival with whoever is hosting, set up out of sight (garage, side yard, or behind the house), and start cooking when the birthday guest walks in. Outdoor setups work best for this.
What do I need to provide for a hibachi birthday at my house?
A flat, non-carpeted outdoor spot about 10 ft by 10 ft (driveway, pool deck, patio, lanai, or garage), tables and chairs for your guests, and drinks. We bring the griddle, propane, all food, plates, utensils, and sauces, and we clean up.
How far in advance should I book a birthday hibachi chef?
For a Saturday, book 2–4 weeks ahead off-season and 5–8 weeks ahead in peak season (spring break, summer, December). Weekday birthdays often have same-week availability. A $50 deposit holds the date and is credited to your final bill. Cancel free 14 or more days out.
Can you cook a hibachi birthday at a vacation rental or Airbnb?
Yes. A large share of our birthday bookings are at vacation rentals in Destin, 30A, Orlando villa communities, and the Keys. We follow property rules, cook outdoors, and leave the space spotless.
Is there a travel fee?
A travel fee may apply depending on distance from our chef base and is always shown in your quote before you book. There is no equipment fee and no cleanup fee.
