Is a hibachi party safe for kids?
What the fire show actually involves
The "fire show" is a controlled burst of flame on the griddle — the chef adds alcohol to a hot spot, it flares for 3-5 seconds, then it's out. Height is 2-3 feet, not a bonfire. Guests sit 3-4 feet from the griddle minimum, which is well outside the flame zone.
How we handle younger kids
For parties with kids under 5, we place the kids 6+ feet from the griddle for the fire show and give parents a heads-up 30 seconds before. Loud noise sensitivity (sometimes an issue for toddlers) is managed by muting the sake-toss cheer if needed.
What chefs are trained to watch for
Overexcited kids running toward the griddle (we pause cooking until they're seated), balloons too close to the griddle, and pets. We've done hundreds of pool parties where kids go pool-to-table all night — the chef manages it fluidly.
The kids package
Kids under 12 are $30 flat on any booking. The kids portion is chicken and shrimp, cooked plain (no soy sauce if parents prefer), with a smaller rice portion. Fire show runs same for everyone.
Allergies in a kids party
For a kid with a shellfish allergy, we cook their chicken off the griddle first (before any shrimp touches it) and plate it separately. Nut allergies: our standard menu is nut-free. Flag at booking for peace of mind.
