Can hibachi be cooked indoors?
Why outdoors is preferred
A hibachi griddle at full temperature puts out heat and some smoke, especially during the fire show. Residential range hoods and standard ceiling fans can't handle it. In a non-vented indoor space, smoke alarms will go off and the room will stay warm for hours.
When indoors works
Homes with a pro-grade commercial hood (think custom-built chef kitchens, some mansion-tier homes) can handle it. If you have one, send us a photo and we'll confirm.
Covered outdoor options
Lanais, screened patios, covered pool decks, and garages with the door up all count as "outdoor" for our purposes — you get a roof but not the smoke problem. These are our favorite setups.
Rainy day plan
If weather pushes you indoors last-minute and you don't have a hood vent, we move to the garage or carport. We don't cancel for rain; we cancel for named storms.
Vacation rental consideration
Most Florida vacation rentals explicitly ban indoor cooking by vendors due to fire-alarm issues and HVAC smoke circulation. We always set up on the pool deck, driveway, or lanai for rentals.
