How much should I tip a hibachi chef?
What's typical
For a private hibachi chef in Florida, the typical cash tip is $50-$150, scaling with the size of the party and how much the host enjoyed the show. If the chef cooked for 20 guests, nailed the fire show, and left your kitchen cleaner than they found it, $100-$150 is standard. For a 10-person party, $50-$80 is standard.
Percentage version
If you prefer the percentage approach: 15-20% of the booking total is a safe range. For a $750 party, that's $115-$150.
Why cash is better than venmo for tips
Chefs appreciate cash because it clears immediately and doesn't get taxed to the business the way platform transfers do. If cash isn't convenient, Venmo or Zelle directly to the chef (not to the company) also works and still goes 100% to them.
When NOT to tip extra
If anything about the event went wrong — late arrival, cold food, chef in a bad mood — don't force the tip. Fork Yeah Hibachi doesn't penalize chefs for low tips on bad days, and we'd rather hear what happened than have you tip out of politeness.
Is gratuity ever auto-added?
Never, in our pricing. Some caterers add 18-22% auto-gratuity to the final bill — we don't. The number on your quote is the number you pay. Any tip is purely at your discretion.
