Short answer
For 12+ in a Destin or 30A rental on Thanksgiving, the realistic options are: (1) catering trays from a local market picked up by Wednesday 5pm, (2) a private chef who comes to the house Thursday afternoon, or (3) a potluck where everyone brings one dish prepped at home. Restaurants that are open run $85-$120 prix fixe, book out six weeks ahead, and seat parties of 6 max.
Why Thanksgiving in a rental is harder than you think
Most Destin and 30A rentals have a single oven and a four-burner cooktop. A 16-pound turkey occupies that oven for 4 hours. Everything else — stuffing, sweet potatoes, pies — waits in a line that does not fit.
Thursday morning Publix traffic in Destin is the worst retail traffic of the year. Parking lots fill by 8am. The last turkey leaves shelves before 10am. Everything you forgot on Wednesday is a 90-minute errand on Thursday.
Open restaurants on Thanksgiving run prix fixe menus at $85-$120 per adult and seat parties of 6 maximum. Reservations opened in September and most sold out by late October.
Option 1: Market catering trays
Publix, Fresh Market, and a few Destin specialty markets take Thanksgiving catering orders through late October / early November. You pick up Wednesday afternoon between 2pm and 5pm, reheat Thursday, serve at your rental.
Pros: cheapest per head ($18-$25). Cons: you still set up, carve, serve, wash. One person loses 2-3 hours of the day.
Option 2: Private chef at the rental
A private chef arrives mid-afternoon Thursday with everything prepped. For a hibachi-style Thanksgiving the chef cooks on the deck or driveway and the fire show happens while the turkey rests. For a traditional roast, a non-hibachi private chef uses your kitchen but handles everything from arrival to final cleanup.
A hibachi party at a Destin rental on Thanksgiving runs $35-$60 per person all inclusive, same price as any other Thursday. No holiday surcharge, no tip pressure. For 16 adults doing two proteins that is $800 total.
A traditional private chef typically runs $85-$140 per person including groceries, with a 4-person minimum shop fee on top. For Thanksgiving specifically the per-person figure often lands near a restaurant prix fixe, but without the drive, the dress code, or the 90-minute table turn.
Option 3: Family-style potluck with a cooking buffer
If three or more people in the group genuinely enjoy cooking, assign one dish each, arrive Wednesday with it already prepped, and reheat Thursday. Turkey stays in the house oven, everything else goes in bags in the fridge until 90 minutes before serve.
This only works if nobody expects two hours of their vacation to not be dishes. It also assumes your rental has adequate fridge space, which many Destin units do not.

Common questions
Do you cook on Thanksgiving Day?
Yes. We run a full Thanksgiving schedule with no holiday surcharge. Thursday afternoon serve times (2-5pm) book first and typically fill 4-6 weeks out.
How much does a Thanksgiving hibachi party cost in Destin?
The same as any other day: $35 per person buffet style, $50 for two proteins, $60 for three, $500 event minimum. For 16 adults on the two-protein package that is $800 all inclusive.
Can you handle a traditional Thanksgiving menu instead of hibachi?
Our chefs specialize in teppanyaki hibachi. For a traditional turkey-and-sides Thanksgiving we recommend a non-hibachi private chef or catering trays. Many Destin families do hibachi Wednesday night and traditional Thursday afternoon.
Where do you cook if it is cold or raining?
The griddle runs outdoors with overhead clearance. We bring a shelter. Most Destin and 30A rentals have a covered deck, lanai, or garage with a vent that works. We confirm the space Monday of your event week.
How late can I book a Destin Thanksgiving chef?
Thanksgiving week usually fills 4-6 weeks out for Thursday itself and 2-3 weeks for Wednesday or Friday nights. Monday or Tuesday of Thanksgiving week often still has availability.
